Ron Burton was part of the Missouri Southern football team’s 1993 MIAA championship when the team went 9-1-1 and advanced to the NCAA playoffs. A co-captain on that team, Burton was a first-team All-American by the sports information directors and was a second-team pick by the Football Gazette, as well as a third-team pick by the Associated Press. A first-team All-MIAA pick in both 1992 and 1993, Burton held the Missouri Southern record for most tackles in a game (21) and in a career (416) when he was inducted. He recorded the 21 tackles in a game against Missouri S&T in 1993.

At the time of his induction, Burton held two of the top ten tackles marks for a single-season (2nd and 9th), and his six sacks in 1993 ranked ninth-best in a single season. He was seventh all-time in career sacks and led the Lions in tackles in two of his four seasons.

Burton graduated from Southern in 1994 with a degree in criminal justice. He is a specialist in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska, serving as an X-Ray Technician. Burton has a wife, Bili, and three children.
