Prior to Southern:
Justin Johnson Jr. is a running back from Edwardsville, Illinois. He comes from West Virginia University, where he played two seasons and appeared in 20 career games, including one start. In 2022, Johnson Jr. finished as the third-leading rusher for WVU with 430 yards on 98 carries and three touchdowns. He also caught eight passes for 46 yards and a touchdown. He had several standout performances, including a career-high 83 yards on 11 carries against Virginia Tech, and led the team with 44 rushing yards in a win over Texas.
 
Before his time at WVU, Johnson Jr. prepped at Edwardsville High School, where he finished with a school-record 4,175 rushing yards and 62 touchdowns. He was named Illinois 8A All-State First Team and helped lead his team to the state playoffs three years in a row. He was a three-time All-Southwestern Conference performer, with his best season coming in 2021, when he rushed for 1,084 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was also ranked as one of the top running backs in the state of Illinois. In addition to football, he participated in track and field, competing in hurdles and relays.

Justin, the son of Tamika and Justin Johnson Sr., brother to Jada and Jorden, is pursuing a degree in Marketing at Southern.
