Prior to Southern
James joins Missouri Southern after a standout career at Grafton High School in Wisconsin, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete in football, basketball and track & field. A cornerback on the football field, James earned All-Conference honors while helping lead the Black Hawks to the 2026 WIAA State Championship. He also enjoyed tremendous success on the track, helping Grafton capture a state title in the 4x200-meter relay while setting a school record in the event. Individually, James earned First Team All-Conference honors in the 4x200 relay and Third Team All-Conference recognition in the 200 meters, posting a personal-best time of 10.8 seconds in the 100-meter dash. A four-year varsity basketball player, James showcased his athleticism across three sports before joining the Lions.
