Charlotte, NC -- Both Kimi Shank and Emilie Mieseler picked up All-American honors in the first day of action
of the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships
held at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.
Shank placed fourth in the 10k with a new school record time of
34:52.17. That time breaks her previous school record of 34:56.57
set this season at the Mt. Sac Relays.
Mieseler placed seventh to earn All-American honors in the
hammer throw with a heave of 174 feet even.
In other action, both Courtney Waltbillig (1,500m) and Ashley Bunch (3k steeple) qualified for the finals in their respective
events.
The Lions still have a host of athletes left to compete in the
final two days of the event. Set to compete on Friday will be Shank
in the 5k and Ciara Lipsey in the pole vault. Channell Lloyd will
compete on Friday in the triple jump, as well as the prelims of the
100m hurdles.
Waltbillig and Bunch run the finals of their races on Saturday,
while Lisa Vengels (high jump) and Kylie Jones (discus) will join
them with their respective events.
