Lion Roar at MIAA Championships: Men Claim Runner-Up, Women Secure 4th

Emporia, Kan. – The Missouri Southern men's and women's outdoor track and field teams delivered a thrilling performance on Day 3 of the 2025 MIAA Championships, with the men earning a runner-up finish with 135 points and the women with a strong 4th-place showing with 91.5 points. The Lions closed out the weekend with three additional MIAA titles, seven All-MIAA honors, and 12 NCAA Qualifying Marks. Ryan Riddle headlined the action by smashing the school, MIAA, and stadium records in the men's 1500m.
 
Women's Javelin
Keilee Johnson takes 2nd place earning All-MIAA honors in the women's javelin with a season best throw and NCAA Qualifying Mark of 49.29m. Adrianne Casey placed 8th with a throw of 43.47m, followed by Maggie Kauk in 16th with a throw of 36.01m.
 
Men's Javelin
Garrett Strange takes 2nd place in the men's javelin earning All-MIAA honors with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 70.10m. Ethan Dias placed 5th with a personal best throw of 66.43m, followed by Clifton Bridgewater in 11th with a throw of 60.69m and Jackson Wahlgren in 15th with a throw of 58.76m.
 
Women's High Jump
Coryn Fair takes 6th place in the women's high jump with a personal best jump of 1.64m, followed by Marcy Miller in 9th with a jump of 1.54m.
 
Men's High Jump
Luke Brumit takes 6th in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.04m.
 
Men's Triple Jump
Ayden Walton takes 4th place with a personal best and NCAA Qualifying Mark of 15.22m, followed closely by Caleb Manning in 5th with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 14.98m and Drew Beachler in 6th with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 14.81m. Peyton McBride placed 12th with a jump of 13.80m.
 
Women's Shot Put
Dailynn VanDeren claims the MIAA Championship in the women's shot put with a personal best and NCAA Qualifying Mark of 15.69m, placing her at #4 in the DII standings. Briar Gillum takes 2nd earning All-MIAA honors with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 15.21m and Kirsten Womack takes 5th with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 14.54m.
 
Men's Shot Put
Jamale Williams claims the MIAA Championship in the men's shot put with a personal best and NCAA Qualifying Mark of 18.28m. Cedric Pearson takes 2nd earning All-MIAA honors with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 18.09m.
 
Women's 4x100
The women's 4x100 relay race of Maggie Kauk, Emma Hobbs, Ashyiria Savage and Aryah Moore placed 5th with a time of 48.04 seconds.
 
Men's 4x100
The men's 4x100 relay race of Matthew Haddock, Sebastian Cooper, Luke Brumit and Cody Grant placed 6th with a time of 41.09 seconds.
 
Men's 1500m
Ryan Riddle takes 2nd place in the men's 1500m earning All-MIAA honors and breaking the MIAA, stadium and MSSU School Record with an NCAA Qualifying Time of 3:42.65. Chase Sorrell takes 7th with a time of 3:52.65 and Kaden Cole in 18th place with a time of 4:03.25.
 
Women's 100m Hurdles
Ashyiria Savage takes 3rd place in the finals of the women's 100m hurdles earning All-MIAA honors and an NCAA Qualifying Time of 14.01s. Aryah Moore takes 4th place with a personal best time of 14.25s.
 
Men's 110m Hurdles
JaDarius Pigg takes 4th place in the finals of the men's 110m hurdles with an NCAA Qualifying Mark of 13.97s.
 
Women's 400m Hurdles
Kinzley Cantwell takes 8th place in the finals of the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.45.
 
Men's 400m Hurdles
JaDarius Pigg claims the MIAA Championship in the finals of the men's 400m hurdles with an NCAA Qualifying Time of 51.96s. Ryan Jackson placed 8th with a time of 54.34s.
 
Women's 5000m
Lilah Genel takes 6th place in the women's 5000m with a time of 17:26.41, followed by Ava Power in 12th with a time of 17:58.83 and Hailey Nelson in 17th with a time of 18:18.85.
 
Men's 5000m
Ryan Riddle takes 2nd place earning All-MIAA honors in the men's 5000m with a time of 14:23.95, followed by Jaden Deaton in 9th with a time of 14:51.03.
 
The Lions will send a group to the Concordia Twilight Meet in Seward, Nebraska, next Friday, March 9 as their last chance meet. The 2025 DII NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl from Thursday, May 22nd to Saturday, May 24th in Pubelo, Colorado. National selections will be announced at a later date.
