Lions Record Three Homeruns In Pittsburg State

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Lions began their month-long road trip with a doubleheader at conference rival #10 Pittsburg State. Despite three homeruns on the day, the #10 Gorillas got the best of the Lions offensively as the Gorillas won both games. The Lions advance to 29-12 (9-5 MIAA) on the season.

Missouri Southern vs. Pittsburg State - Game One
L, 8-1

The #10 Gorillas came out swinging and added eight unanswered runs in the first three innings to take a 8-0 lead after three innings of play. The Lions returned in the fourth inning with a double from Kate Thurman and a single from Adrianna Young, but both were left on base as the Gorillas picked up the third out. Taylor Nuckolls put the Lions on the board with a solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning to narrow the Lions deficit to 8-1. The Lions defense kept the Gorillas from scoring in the fifth and sixth innings as the Lions had one more chance to gain back their seven run deficit. The Gorillas forced three straight outs in the top of the seventh as the Lions dropped game one, 8-1.

Missouri Southern vs. Pittsburg State - Game Two

The Lions put the pressure on the Gorillas first in game two with an RBI single from Kara Amos that drove in Kylee Jacks to take a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning. The Gorillas returned with three runs in the bottom half of the first to give them a 3-1 lead. Abby DeSanto got things going in the top of the second with a solo homerun to left-center field to narrow the Lions deficit to 3-2. The Gorillas answered again with two runs to take a 5-2 lead after two innings of play. It was all Gorillas over the next two innings, scoring five more unanswered runs to increase their lead to 10-2 after four innings of play. The Lions were not going down without a fight as Kylee Jacks led off the inning with her first homerun as a Lion over the right field fence. Carsen Tinkler kept the inning rolling with an RBI single that drove in Adrianna Young to narrow the Lions deficit to 10-4 after the top of the fifth. The Gorillas answered with two runs of their own to complete the run-rule as the Lions fell 12-4.

The Missouri Southern Softball team will continue their road trip on Friday, April 12 as they head to Emporia State to take on the Hornets in Emporia, Kansas at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM in a conference doubleheader.
