Softball Falls To Emporia State In Friday Doubleheader

Emporia, Kan. - Softball continued their road trip at Emporia State for a conference doubleheader against the Hornets. A close first game was followed by an offensive outburst as the Lions ended the day with two losses to the Hornets. The Lions advance to 29-14 (9-7 MIAA) on the season.

Missouri Southern vs. Emporia State - Game One
L, 3-2

The Lions struck the scoreboard first with an RBI single from Kara Amos to bring in Kylee Jacks, who singled and stole second base prior, and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Hornets quickly returned with a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1 after one inning. The Hornets put up two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead over the Lions after three innings of play. Taylor Nuckolls narrowed the Lions deficit by driving in Kylee Jacks for her second run with an RBI single to bring the score to 3-2 after the top of the fifth inning in favor of the Hornets. Neither team was able to reach home in the remaining innings as the Hornets pulled away with game one over the Lions, 3-2.

The Hornets scored first with two runs off a throwing error to take a 2-0 lead over the Lions after two innings of play. The fourth inning ended with another Hornet run to grow their lead to 3-0 over the Lions. The Lions had a tough time stringing any offense together as the Hornets put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by run rule, 8-0. Kylee Jacks and Katie Gray picked up hits for the Lions in game two.
