Lions Complete Kansas Doubleheader At #23 Washburn

Topeka, Kan. - Missouri Southern traveled to #23 Washburn University for a conference doubleheader against the Ichadbods. A late inning comeback and a shutout were the results in favor of Washburn as the Lions fell short in both games. The Lions advance to 29-16 (9-9 MIAA) on the season.

Missouri Southern vs. Washburn - Game One
L, 8-3

The Lions took advantage of bases being loaded as Yazmin Vargas recorded an RBI off a walk to put the Lions on the board first after two innings of play, 1-0. Taylor Nuckolls added to the Lions lead in the third with a solo homerun to right field to give them a 2-0 lead after three innings. Kara Amos kept the Lions rolling with an RBI double down the left field line to drive in Yazmin Vargas, who singled and stole second prior, and gave the Lions a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. Lily Rand stepped into the circle for Kiki Pickens after Pickens had a fantastic five strikeouts and only one hit outing in her four innings pitched. The Lions were forced to make a few pitching changes as the Ichabods took advantage of three straight walks with adding four straight singles as they took the lead from the Lions in the fifth, 6-3. The Ichabods added two more runs in the sixth to take a 8-3 lead with the Lions only having one inning left to bring it back. Despite three singles in the top of the seventh, the Lions were unable to score as the #23 Ichabods pulled out the win, 8-3.

L, 3-0

The Ichabods struck the scoreboard first with one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Lions. Adrianna Young and Kylee Jacks both singled in the top of the third, but could not reach home before three outs as the Ichabods held their 1-0 lead. The Ichabods were able to add another run to their lead as they led 2-0 after three innings. The Lions could not reach home as the Ichabods added another run to their lead as the Lions trailed 3-0 after five innings. The Lions could not string any offense together as the Ichabods would walk away with game two, 3-0.
