Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Softball team competed in day two of the Teri Mathis-Zenner MIAA/NSIC Crossover Tournament against St. Cloud State in game one and #22 Concordia-St. Paul in game two. The Lions began the day strong with a 3-1 win over St. Cloud State in game one, but fell in extras to #22 Concordia-St. Paul in game two, 5-4. The Lions advance to 21-8 (3-1 MIAA) on the season.

Both teams had a great start defensively as neither team was able to score in the first five and a half innings of play.
Kiki Pickens held the Huskies to one hit through the first six innings as the Lions were the first on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI triple from
Yazmin Vargas, a wild pitch bringing in Vargas and a
Katie Gray RBI single to give the Lions a 3-0 lead. The Huskies gathered one more hit which resulted in their lone run as the Lions won 3-1.
Kiki Pickens (7-4) picked up the win for the Lions and pitched all 7.0 innings and gave up 2 hits and one earned run while striking out six of the 24 batters she faced.
Missouri Southern vs. #22 Concordia-St. Paul - Game Two
L, 5-4 /8 inn.
The Lions were in control of the game throughout the first five innings of play. The Lions added two runs in the first inning off a sacrifice groundout and a throwing error to bring in another run.
Adrianna Young hit a RBi sacrifice fly, followed by a bases loaded walk to give the Lions a 4-0 lead after five innings of play. The Golden Bears were able to tie the game with four runs over the last two regulation innings to bring the game to extras. The Golden Bears were able to score an unanswered run in the eight to defeat the Lions, 5-4.
Lily Rand (2-3) picked up the loss for the Lions and pitched 1.0 inning and gave up three hits and one run while striking out one of the six batters that she faced.Â
