Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern men's golf team is in fifth today after day one of the Natural States Golf Classic hosted by Harding University at Red Apple Inn and Country Club in Heber Springs, Ark.
Southern traveled seven golfers to the event with two golfers serving as individuals and not counting toward the team score. The Lions finished round one with a 298 and in fifth place.
Connor Williamson leads the way after day one as he is tied for seventh individually after shooting a round-one even-par 71. Williamson had four birdies over the first 18 holes.
Logan Greer and
Alexander Page both finished with a one-over 72 and were tied for tenth. Page was playing as an individual and has the second-lowest score amongst the individuals. Greer managed four birdies over the 18 holes, while Page had three to his credit.
Tradgon McCrae finished the day tied for 27
th with a 76, while
Grant Sikes was tied for 37
th, one stroke back at 77. Sikes was playing as an individual.
Ben Marckmann was tied for 46
th with a 79, while
Ben Epperly finished the first 18 holes tied for 54
th at 81.
Henderson State, who came into the event ranked 22
nd, is in first, six strokes in front of second-place Harding. Missouri S&T is third, followed by Southern Arkansas, the Lions, Southeastern Oklahoma, Harding's B squad, Missouri Western, Northwestern Oklahoma, Arkansas-Monticello and Hendrix.
The Lions will finish up the tournament tomorrow with the final 18 holes. Southern will tee off at 8:30 am and the Lions will be paired with Missouri Western and Southeastern Oklahoma.
