Pittsburg, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Pittsburg State Invite today on Harvey Dean Track inside the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Southern women came away with two event wins and three top three finishes.
Emily Presley hit another automatic height of 4.08m in the pole vault to win the invitational round. She bested four Division I vaulters in the process.
Kelsey Evans won the unseeded section of the 800m with a time of 2:21.00, while Ally Heckemeyer picked up a provisional in the triple jump with a third place distance of 11.86m.
In other action for the women,
Destiny Akannam was fourth in the 400m with a time of 57.83, while the mile relay team of
Rachel Ray, Heckemeyer, Evans and Akannam placed 7th in a time of 3:57.54.
Wynter Nekola placed 12th in the high jump, while Akannam was 12th in the 200m.
In men's action,
Bryan Burns hit a provisional distance of 18.31m in the weight throw to finish fifth, while
Josh Fulmer was 14th.
Andrew Wells was the top Division II athlete in the high jump with a height of 1.99m, while
David Madl placed 16th.
Dean Howard was sixth in the open pole vault, while
Josh Norville picked up a provisional distance of 7.17m to finish fourth in the long jump. Norville was the top Division II jumper in the event, while
Chance Johnson was eighth.
Brendan Watkins picked up a provisional distance of 14.75m in the triple jump to finish sixth, while
Kennan Harrison was 11th in a provisional distance of 14.47m.
Matt Willis was 11th in the hurdles, while
Nathan Painter was ninth in the unseeded mile.
Josh Webb finished ninth in the 5k with a time of 14:58.00, while the men's mile relay team of
Jon Johnson,
Victor Encarnacion,
Taylor Emery and Willis placed 11th in a time of 3:20.45.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend as Southern plays host to the Lion Open and Multis on Mercy Track inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
