Lawrence, Kan. -- Missouri Southern senior distance runner Cynthia Torres won the unseeded 5k tonight as the Lions sent a group of distance runners to compete in the Kansas Relays. 

Torres finished the race in a time of 17:32.14, seven seconds in front of her nearest competition. 

In other action, Sierra Gray placed fifth in the unseeded 3k steeple chase with a time of 11:15.94. Nickson Kiptoo was second in the men's unseeded 5k with a time of 14:48.08, while Cody Berry and Jared Haltom placed 15th and 16th, respectively. 

The Lions final runner competing, Mike Shanahan, placed 13th in the 10k with a time of 32:12.10. 

The Lions will be in multiple locations this weekend with some heading to the University of Arkansas on Friday and Saturday and others heading to Missouri S&T on Sunday.
