Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Women's Track and Field team finished up the 2016 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a fifth-place team finish as the Lions competed today on the campus of Northwest Missouri.
The Lions placed fifth with 72.5 total points in the team standings. Pittsburg State was first with 170 points, while Lincoln (138) finished second. Central Missouri placed third, followed by Fort Hays, Southern, Northwest Missouri, Nebraska-Kearney, Southwest Baptist, Emporia State, Central Oklahoma and Lindenwood to fill out the team standings.
Southern had a total of seven All-MIAA performances throughout the competition with
Cynthia Torres taking home multiple honors.
Brittani Reagan started things off today with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, leaping to a distance of 39-03.75.
Allie Heckemeyer was 10th, while
Sierra Barrett placed 13th.
In the shot put,
Katie Skelton placed ninth with a distance of 41-06, while
Desirea Buerge and
Jenson Maydew placed 16th and 19th.
Kylee Hulsey placed 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5-03.25.
In the running events,
Sierra Gray placed 10th in the 3k steeplechase, while
Emily Harris won the 1,500m. Harris ran a time of 4:35.67, finishing three seconds in front of second place.
Sierra Wells and
Sarah Usher placed 11th and 12th in the event.
In the 5k, Torres finished second with a time of 17:59.43, while Harris was fifth and Wells placed 11th.
