Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team ran into a hot-hitting Fort Hays State squad tonight as the Tigers hit .326 to win three sets to none. Individal set scores were 11-25, 12-25 adn 15-25.
Southern (6-24, 3-14 MIAA) had two with five kills each as
Monica White and
Sydney Dose pulled in five each.
Christina Perlinger had four kills and six digs, while
Kat Gries and
Whitney Harrison had 13 and 11 digs, respectively. Harrison dished out five assists, while
Katie Paine had six and Gries had four.
Fort Hays (24-8, 10-7 MIAA) had two with double-figure kills, led by 12 from Rebeka Spainhour. She hit .667 to lead the offensive effort.
The first set saw one tied score, but no lead changes as Hays led from 2-1 on. The second set saw the Tigers lead from start to finish, but the third set was much closer.
The finale saw four tied scores and three lead changes. FHSU led 4-2, but the Lions tied the set at four on a kill by Harrison and went ahead 5-4 on the next point. The Tigers' lead reached four (11-7) to force a Southern timeout and despite a kill from Perlinger out of the timeout, The Lions would not get any closer.
Southern will finish off the season tomorrow morning as the Lions will play host to third ranked Nebraska-Kearney. First serve is set for 11 am from Young Gymnasium.
