Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Volleyball team fell three sets to none this afternoon to third ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Senior Day. Individual set scores were 11-25, 12-25 and 16-25.
The Lions (6-25, 3-15 MIAA) were led offensively by
Monica White as she had six kills and four blocks, hitting .556 for the match.
Sydney Dose had four kills, while
Christina Perlinger had three. Dose added five digs, while
Whitney Harrison had nine assists and five digs, as well. White had four blocks, while
Alicia Pickett added six. The team had ten total blocks.
UNK (32-1, 14-1 MIAA) was led by nine kills from Annie Wolfe.
Southern took an early 4-3 lead in the first set, but the Lopers came back and went on a 12-2 run to lead 15-6 and force a Lions' timeout. The lead was 23-10 and forced another Lions timeout. Southern got a block from Pickett coming out of the timeout, but the Lopers scored the final two points to take the set.
The second set saw just one tied score (1-1) and the Lopers rolled to the win. In set three, UNK led from start to finish, but the Lions made it interesting late, closing the set on a 7-5 run.
The Lions end the season at 6-25 and 3-15 in the MIAA. Seniors
Monica White and
Lauren Darby were honored prior to the match as part of Senior Day festivities.
