Taylor Lansford shot a career low, 66, as the Missouri Southern Lions Men's Golf team finished sixth overall and fifth in the MIAA points standings at the Lindenwood Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Course.
Lansford birdied three on the front nine and two on the back to card his career low 5-under 66 to pace the Lions in the final round of competition for the 2016-17 fall season. Lansford rose 10 spots in the final day to tie with UCM's Brett Windsor to finish at 1-under 212. Lansford won the second place trophy after a scorecard playoff, in which he ousted Windsor with a better third round score, Lansford's final round of 66 was the lowest of the tournament.
Junior
Connor Neil finished the third and final round at 2-over 73 and was tied for 23rd with a 12-over 225 with sophomore
Tristan Haltom falling 10 spots into a tie for 26th after a 8-over 79. For the tournament Haltom finished with a 13-over 226 to help the Lions solidify a top five finish in the MIAA points standing. Freshman
Chase Rogers shot a final round 77 to finish the tournament with a 20-over 223 and sophomore
Adam Vining carded a three round total of 243.
The University of Missouri at St. Louis, ranked fourth nationally, won the team title shooting 1-under on the final round for a three round total of 859. Central Missouri finished in second place overall and took the top MIAA points spot with a three round 863 and were followed by Central Oklahoma with a 878. The hosts, Lindenwood, finished in fourth overall and third in the MIAA points with a 883 followed by the Ichabods narrowly edging out Missouri Southern, by three strokes, for fifth place overall with an 892 to an 895. The University of Indianapolis and Upper Iowa finished in seventh and eighth with a 900 and 911, respectively, while Northeastern State and Lincoln rounded out the top 10.
The new MIAA standings heading into the spring portion of the season will be posted at a later time tonight.
