Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team fell in straight sets today, dropping an MIAA match inside Young Gymnasium to Lindenwood, 3-0. Individual set scores were 23-25, 9-25 and 15-25.
Southern (4-18, 1-8 MIAA) was led by Sidney Dose with eight kills.
Mikayla Monk had four kills, while
Alyx Gepford and
Christina Perlinger had three kills each.
Whitney Harrison and
Katie Paine dished out 11 and seven assists each, while
Kat Gries had a team-high ten digs.
Lindenwood (8-11, 4-5 MIAA) was led by eight kills each from Alex Bogusz and Shannon Doyle.
The first set was back-and-forth with 12 tied scores and two lead changes. The Lions led 14-13 after a kill from
Monica White, but a 4-1 run from Lindenwood gave the Lady Lions a 17-15 lead and forced a Southern timeout. The Lindenwood lead was 23-20 to force another Southern timeout, but MSSU scored two points out of the timeout to force a Lindenwood timeout. Southern scored again to tie it at 23 after the timeout, but Lindenwood scored the final two points to take the set.
The second set was all Lindenwood, as the Lady Lions led from start to finish.
The third set saw six tied scores and four lead changes. The set was tied at eight early on and the score was 14-13, Lindenwood midway. However, Lindenwood scored 11 of the final 13 points to take the set and the match.
Southern will be back in action on October 21, travelling to Missouri Western to take on the Griffons. First serve is slated for 7 pm.
