Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up two titles and ten top three finishes at the 2011 Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational today at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Lisa Vengels won the high jump and Kylie Cornman won the shot put today. Vengels hit a height of 5-8 to take first, while Gayla Booth was second in the event at 5-00.25. Cornman won the shot with a new personal best and a provisional distance of 46-00.5, while Nicole Green finished second with a provisional distance of 45-09.00.
Sydney Haase and Vanessa Langford placed seventh in the pole vault, with heights of 11-6, while Lindsey Bragg placed second in the long jump with a distance of 17-06.25. Green was fourth in the discus with a distance of 137-11, while Cornman placed 11th in the event. Green was sixth in the hammer and Cornman finished tenth.
The 4x100m relay team placed second in a time of 48.66, while the Lions fielded two teams in the 4x400 relay, placing 4th and 8th. JeAnna Sheppard was second in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.44, while Jasmine Huges, Kelly McKay and Tia Cook placed 3rd, 4th and 8th in the 100m dash, respectively.
Carita Riutta was third in the 800, clocking in at a time of 2:17.43, while Elizabeth Corcoran placed sixth in the 400m hurdles. Rachel Schrader was third int he 1,500m with a time of 4:46.83, while Olga Bulgurova, Victoria Kline, Marlee Tegenkamp, Maggie Tennal, Kelsie Hutsell, Codi Fritchie and Nicole French placed 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th 18th, 20th and 23rd, respectively.
The Lions will be back in action this week with the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Southern will start with the Heptathlon at Pittsburg State on May 1 and 2, and then will wrap up the Championships with the rest of the meet at Emporia State next weekend.
