Edwardsville, Ill. -- The Missouri Southern
women's cross country team had all five scoring runners finish in
the top ten, but Pittsburg State had the top three and the Lions
fell just 12 points from the championship at the Southern Illinois
- Edardsville Cougar Open.
Silvia Pineda led a contingent of Southern runners that finished
fifth, sixth and seventh as the senior crossed the finish line of
the 6k course in 23:00.86. Marlee Tegenkamp and Olga Bulgurova
placed sixth and seventh, respectively.
Rachel Schrader and Nicole French were ninth and tenth,
respectively, while Michelle Stevens finished 16th. Maggie Tennal
and Victoria Kline placed 21st and 22nd, respectively.
The Lions were second, just a dozen points behind Pittsburg
State, but placed 50 points in front of Division I Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville. Division III Washington University placed
fourth, while Division II St. Joseph's was fifth.
Southern will be back in action on November 6 when the Lions
will compete in the 2010 MIAA Cross Country Championships at Fort
Hays State University.
