Lions Sit Second After Day Two at MIAA Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Missouri Southern closed out day two of the MIAA Indoor Championships in strong position, with both the men's and women's teams sitting in second place heading into the final day of competition. The Lion women have totaled 34 points, trailing Pittsburg State (98), while the men sit second with 45 points behind Pittsburg State (51.5).

The throws group delivered a historic performance to highlight the day. Dailynn VanDeren won the women's weight throw with a personal-best and NCAA qualifying mark of 20.38 meters, setting a new MSSU program record. Kirsten Womack placed second with a personal-best 19.51 meters, and Briar Gillum added a fourth-place finish, as three Lions secured NCAA marks. On the men's side, Gabe Ford captured the conference title in the weight throw with a personal-best 20.73 meters. Isaiah Waller, Drake Willenborg and Tyson Williams each posted personal-best throws over 19 meters to earn NCAA qualifying marks.

Missouri Southern also found success in the jumps, as Ayden Walton claimed the MIAA title in the men's long jump with a personal-best and NCAA qualifying mark of 7.32 meters. Kadance Barnett added a personal-best NCAA mark in the women's long jump, and Ayla Bishop secured another qualifier in the women's pole vault.

On the track, Maksym Andurukhiv recorded a personal-best NCAA qualifying time in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims, while Aryah Moore advanced to the finals in the women's event with a personal-best mark. Ella Fosse qualified for the finals in the women's 400 meters with a personal-best and NCAA qualifying time. The men's distance medley relay team also placed second with an NCAA qualifying mark to add valuable team points.

Missouri Southern will look to build on its momentum Sunday as the Lions close out the MIAA Indoor Championships.
