Filip Sets Single-Season Hit-by-Pitch Record as Lions Rally Past Hillcats

Joplin, Mo. The Missouri Southern baseball team hosted the Rogers State University Hillcats in a conference match-up. The Hillcats jumped out to an early lead, but the Lions steadily chipped away at the deficit before finding their stride in the eighth inning, rallying for five runs to take control. Southern held on from there to secure the 8-5 victory.

Jacob Filip set a new MSSU single-season record for times hit by pitch against Rogers State, setting a new record at 24. He surpasses the previous mark of 23 set by Henry Kusiak in the 2024 season.

The Hillcats took an early lead in the first inning, setting the score at 4-0.
 
Southern responded in the third inning, narrowing the gap as Ethan Clark hit a two-run home run to left field, bringing the score to 4-2.
 
In the sixth inning, Southern added another run. After Brayden Luikart was hit by a pitch and scored on a Blake Jones single, bringing the score to 5-3.
 
The Lions launched a comeback in the eighth inning, scoring five runs to take the lead. Cy Darnell's two-RBI double and Drew Townsend's two-RBI single, followed by Ethan Clark's RBI triple, pushed Southern ahead 8-5.
 
Southern held firm in the ninth, securing an 8-5.
 
Ethan Clark collected three RBIs from a home run and a triple. Drew Townsend contributed with two hits and two RBIs. Cy Darnell contributed with two hits, including a double and two RBIs. The Lions tallied eight hits.
 
Alex Baker started the game for Missouri Southern. Michael Moore came in as a relief pitcher and struck out seven over 4.0 innings. Caden Carter contributed 0.2 innings. Brandon Overman provided 2.1 innings of relief while striking out two. Owen Schneider closed the game effectively with 2.0 innings of scoreless pitching, striking out two and not allowing a hit.
