Southern Defeats Newman with Run-Rule Victory

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball team hosted the Newman University Jets. Missouri Southern surged early and never looked back, sealing an 11-0 run-rule victory.

In the second inning, Southern seized control of the game with a five-run surge. After Will Potter was hit by a pitch and stole second, Chayton Beck singled to drive him in for the first run. Brayden Luikart followed with an RBI single, scoring Beck, and Jacob Filip capped off the inning with a three-run homer to left field, pushing the score to 5-0.

The Lions' offense ignited again in the fifth inning, adding four more runs. Nate Mieszkowski reached base and scored on Will Potter's sacrifice fly. Chayton Beck then reached on a fielder's choice, leading to two unearned runs after a throwing error. Brayden Luikart kept the momentum going with a single that brought in two more unearned runs, extending the lead to 9-0.

The game saw a weather interruption with a lightning delay, followed by rain.

When play resumed in the sixth inning, Missouri Southern continued their dominance. Cy Darnell reached on a shortstop error, allowing Nate Mieszkowski to score. Will Potter followed with an RBI single to bring Darnell home, making it 11-0. The Lions kept control and finished the game with a run-rule victory.

Brayden Luikart led the offensive charge with four hits and three RBIs. Jacob Filip contributed with a home run and three RBIs.
 
Owen Schneider delivered a stellar performance for Missouri Southern State, pitching six scoreless innings, striking out four batters, and facing 21. Kaylor Darnell came on in relief, recording one out and striking out one in 0.1 inning. Brandon Overman closed out the game, retiring both batters he faced with strikeouts.
