Lions Split at the Raising Cane’s Festival

Edmond, Okla. - The Missouri Southern Softball team traveled to Edmond, Okla., to compete in the Raising Cane's Festival. The Lions fell in game one, 1-0 to the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. Southern bounced back in game two with a dominant 10-4 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Kiki Pickens started on the mound for the Lions, she collected eight strikeouts, and the Southern defense contributed with nine groundouts.
 
The Muleriders got on the board in the first inning and held on for a 1-0 win.

Avery Tallman started on the mound for the Lions and held the Bulldogs scoreless. In the second inning, Missouri Southern took a 3-0 lead as Taylor Nuckolls tripled and scored on an Easton Walter sacrifice fly. Maddie Rolfs scored on a Kylee Jacks single to left, and Jacks crossed home on a Hannah Duin single. Katie Gray extended the Lions' lead with a solo home run in the third, making it 4-0. In the fourth, Duin drove in Jacks with a single to left, pushing the lead to 5-0. Southern added another run in the fifth when Gray doubled and scored on a Nuckolls RBI double, making it 6-0.
 
The Lions' stretched its lead in the sixth as Bailey Dillon scored on a Bulldogs error. Emma Mason and Carsen Tinkler each delivered RBI singles, and Taylor Nuckolls capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Southwestern Oklahoma State responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-4. Easton Walter sealed the offensive performance in the seventh with her first career home run, securing a 10-4 victory.
