Bentonville, Ark. - The Missouri Southern Softball team wrapped up the final day at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic on Saturday, February 10. The Lions split the day with a loss to Illinois Springfield, 9-0, followed by a huge 13-2 win over Southwest Baptist.

It was a rough start to the final day of the Classic. After neither team could touch the scoreboard in the first inning the Prairie Stars began to get to work, scoring six unanswered runs after three innings of play. The Lions were able to finish the rest of the game with four singles from
Adrianna Young,
Kara Amos,
Carsen Tinkler and
Reese Davis, but could not find a way to get them across home as another three runs from the Prairie Dogs gave them the 9-0 victory over the Lions.
Kara Amos (0-1) picked up the loss for the Lions and pitched the first 1.1 innings and gave up four hits and three runs while striking out one batter in the seven batters that she faced.Â

After taking their second loss of the season, the Lions came out to their second game of the day with vengeance. The Lions began to stack up runs early, scoring three unanswered runs in the first four innings with an RBI from a
Reese Davis single and two-RBI single from
Kate Thurman. The Lions took that momentum into a huge fifth inning, scoring six runs starting from RBIs from an
Emily Perry single, a two-RBI double from
Kara Amos,
Reese Davis single,
Kate Thurman single and another single from
Madison Grimes, bridging their lead to 9-0.Â
After the Bearcats scored their first runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 9-2, the Lions made the game unreachable in the seventh.
Madison Grimes had her second RBI of the day with another single bringing in
Peyton Hawkins.
Kylee Jacks got her first RBI for the game with a single, bringing in Thurman.
Adrianna Young and
Emily Perry both had a single that scored a run to give the Lions their eight win of the season as they defeated Southwest Baptist 13-2.
Kiki Pickens (3-0) got the win for the Lions, pitching all 7.0 innings and giving up only three hits and two runs while striking out nine batters of the 28 she faced.

The Missouri Southern Softball team will head to Oklahoma to compete in the Raising Cane's Festival on February 16-18, starting with a matchup against Arkansas Tech in Edmond at 10:30 AM and following that game with a matchup against Southern Nazarene in Bethany at 3:00 PM.
