Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer program plays hosts to William Jewell (Thur.) and Southern Nazarene (Sat.) this weekend as the Lions begin their first home weekend of the season.
Southern (0-2, 0-0 MIAA) comes into the week after a pair of tough 1-0 losses to Upper Iowa and Minnesota State – Mankato in OT. Goalie
Riley Laver collected 11 saves, the second most in the MIAA and has logged the most minutes of any goalie in the MIAA so far, forward
Ella Durocher has a team-high six shots (two on goal), midfielder
Jori Hays has five shots (three on goal) and
Maya Greenquist is tied with Hays for the team lead in shots on goal with all three of her shots requiring a save by the opposition goalie.

William Jewell (0-2, 0-0 GLVC) lost to MIAA members Washburn (1-0) and Rogers State (2-0) this past week to begin its season. Leading the offense for the Cardinals has been Jayme Coon and Clara Fronabarger with five shots each and Coon is tied with Katie Kamies with two shots on goal for the team lead as well. Both games saw a different goalie for William Jewell last week with Kaylie Kappelmann and Katie Wagenheim going the full 90 minutes, Kappelmann had seven saves against Washburn while Wagenheim collected five against Rogers State. In the GLVC's preseason poll William Jewell was picked to finish 14th after going 1-10-2 in the spring following head coach Cory Herchenroeder's first season in charge.
Southern Nazarene (0-2, 0-0 GAC) is coming off a week on the road to Oklahoma Panhandle State and Regis where the Crimson Storm lost 3-2 followed by a 10-1 result. Alejandra Andrade collected two goals last week and Kaitlyn Deaton got her first of the season as well. Andrade leads the Crimson Storm with nine shots (six on goal) and Deaton has all her five shots being on goal. In goal Eliya Alvidrez has played in three half's and collected six saves so far in one start and Abegayle Black started a game and played a half, collecting six saves as well. Southern Nazarene was picked to finish sixth in the GAC's preseason coaches' poll after going 2-5-1 (1-4-1 GAC) last season that included the first GAC tournament win in program history.
