Soccer Narrowly Falls Sunday at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri Southern soccer (1-1-0) fell to Missouri S&T (1-1-0) in a narrow 3–2 defeat on Sunday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. 
 
MSSU now has a record of 1-1-0 while Missouri S&T also holds a 2026 mark of 1-1-0.
 
Samantha Glossup scored one goal and had her only shot on target.
 
Bella Smith recorded eight saves, with six coming in the first half. She now has 290 career saves as a Lion and ranks third all-time in MSSU program history.
 
Daniela Marquez contributed with one assist, adding to the Lions' efforts. Presley Whitmire finished with one goal and one assist, tallying three points and two shots on goal.
 
The match commenced with Missouri S&T taking an early lead, as Adriana Benassi scored off an assist from Aubrey Case in the fifth minute, putting the home team ahead. Missouri Southern responded with increased pressure, marked by a notable attempt from Sophie Spoonmore that was saved by Missouri S&T's goalkeeper.
 
MSSU equalized in the 21st minute when Whitmire scored with assistance from Marquez.
 
Smith's defensive efforts were crucial in keeping the score level, making multiple saves throughout the period. The first half concluded with Southern and the Miners locked at 1–1, setting up a competitive continuation of the match.
 
The second period began with Missouri S&T making a quick impact as Benassi scored with an assist from Jenna Marti in the 56th minute, giving the home team a 2–1 lead.
 
Southern responded immediately, as Glossup netted an equalizer just seconds later, assisted by Whitmire, leveling the score at 2–2.
 
The momentum shifted again when Missouri S&T regained the lead in the 64th minute with a successful penalty kick by Aubrey Case.
 
Despite MSSU's efforts, including a saved shot by Whitmire and a late attempt by Kortney Davis, the Lions were unable to find the back of the net again.
 
The game concluded with Missouri S&T maintaining its lead, closing with a 3–2 win over Southern.
 
MSSU next hosts Ouachita Baptist on Friday, Sept. 4 at Fred G. Hughes Stadium. First kick is set for 7:30 p.m., CT. The Lions conclude the home weekend on Sunday, Sept. 6 with a meeting against UT Dallas.
