TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Missouri Southern soccer fell to Northeastern State, 4-0, Sunday at DeLoache Field.
MSSU is now 1-3-1 overall in 2026. The RiverHawks are 4-1-1 overall.
Missouri Southern put four of its seven shots on goal but was held to one shot in the second half.
Bella Smith recorded four saves over 64:23 in goal.
Talia Sanders finished with two shots, including one on goal.
Sophie Spoonmore added two shots.
Missouri Southern faced an early deficit as NSU scored in the third and fourth minutes, then added a penalty-kick goal in the 22nd minute.
The Lions still created first-half chances, earning a corner at 2:25 and putting shots on frame through
Samantha Glossup, Sanders and
Alexis Rodriguez, all saved by Juliette Langlet.
Smith made a save on Annabella Trotter in the eighth minute, while Southern continued to absorb pressure that included a Northeastern State shot off the woodwork in the 17th minute. The first half grew more physical after the 29th minute, with MSSU earning another corner at 33:57 before Sanders hit the top woodwork in the 41st minute. The RiverHawks took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Missouri Southern conceded the second half's only goal in the 53rd minute, when NSU scored at 52:20 to move the score to 4-0.
Earlier in the half, Smith faced immediate pressure and made a save on Kendall Stejskal's shot in the 51st minute before the goal followed shortly after.
Smith kept the Lions from allowing more during a later stretch, stopping shots by Alexis Quantie and Brooke Dodd less than 20 seconds apart in the 64th minute, and the defense also absorbed a corner kick and another shot through the 76th minute without another goal.
Clarissa Davis put MSSU's shot on frame in the 69th minute, forcing a save by Grace Knoblock, and the Lions added a corner kick in the 87th minute before the RiverHawks finished off the 4-0 result.
MSSU next hosts Washburn in the Lions' MIAA opener. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., CT at Hal Bodon Field in Joplin, Missouri.
