Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team fell victim to a late-inning rally again today as the Lions dropped an MIAA contest at Northwest Missouri by the score of 6-2.
Southern (20-17, 12-11 MIAA) was led offensively by
Walker Whitworth with a 3-4 day at the plate and a run scored.
Alec Alvarez,
Max Hogan, and
Todd Hinkley had a hit each.
Dan Hawk started and went six strong innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, while striking out eight in the no-decision.
Zach Litchen thre an inning and two thirds, allowing four runs, and moving to 1-2 on the season.
Brandon Saddler,
Hayden Brauser and
Will Bausinger threw in relief.
Northwest (23-10, 12-8 MIAA) got a pair of hits from Garrett Fort and a hit each from six others.
Neither team scored until the Bearcats scored a run in the fifth to go up 1-0.
Alvarez scored for the Lions to tie it up in the sixth and
Tyler Sutherland drove in Whitworth in the seventh to put the Lions up 2-1. The Bearcats, however, scored five runs in the eighth to put the game away.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon with the series finale. First-pitch is slated for 1 pm.
