Lions Drop Pair To Truman

Joplin, Mo. -- Despite seeing Max Hogan go 4-7 with 9 RBIs, two home runs and an RBI, the Lions dropped both ends of a double-header today by the scores of 9-8 and 15-11.

The Lions (6-4) lost game one 9-8 in extra innings. Hogan went 2-4 with two RBIs and a double, while Mike Million had a home run in the game. Tyler Sutherland went 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Danny Biggs and Richie Gorski had two runs scored each.

Zach Litchen started and went two and a third, allowing just one earned run before exiting. Colin Chandler, Christian Goshen, Eric Wilkinson and Cody Smith threw in relief. Smith took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season.

Southern scored eight runs over the first four innings to lead 8-6 after four, but a two-run sixth for Truman (3-5) and a run in extra innings gave the Bulldogs the win.

In game two, Hogan went 2-3 with four RBIs, three runs scored and two home runs. Brett Graham, Todd Hinkley, Million and Biggs all had two hits each with Hinkley adding a home run and a double. Hinkley and Biggs drove in two each.

Truman scored two in the first and three in the second before the Lions answered back with three runs over the second and the third to make the score 5-3 going into the fifth inning. Truman, however, scored six in the fifth and four in the sixth to put the game away. The Lions scored four in the sixth and threatened with three in the seventh, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Will Bausinger took the loss to move to 1-1 on the season, while Hayden Brauser, Brandon Saddler, Chandler, Trenton Moeller and Craig Larkin threw in relief.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a 2 pm first pitch against Arkansas Tech.
