Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Volleyball team ran into a hot-hitting 22nd-ranked Northwest Missouri Squad today and the Lions fell three sets to none inside Young Gymnasium. Individual set scores were 17-25, 12-25 adn 17-25.
The Lions (3-12, 0-2 MIAA) were led by
Monica White as the senior had seven kills and hit .375 in the match.
Sydney Dose had six kills and four digs, while
Whitney Harrison had 22 assists and six digs.
Northwest was led by 15 kills and a .429 attack average from Maddy Bruder. Sarah Dannettell had nine kills, 31 assists and six digs in the match. The Bearcats, as a team, hit .420 in the match.
Both teams traded points early on in the first set, before Northwest opened up a 10-6 lead. The Lions got back to within two after a kill from White made the score 12-10, but four-straight points from the Bearcats forced a Lions' timeout. Northwest went on to win the set 25-17.
The second set featured four tied scores and one lead change, but the Bearcats secured the 25-12 win. In the third set, the Lions raced out to a 3-1 lead, but Northwest fought back and tied it at three, en route to a 10-6 lead midway through. The Lions wouldn't get any closer.
Southern will be back in action on September 30, traveling to Emporia State. First serve is slated for 7 pm.
