Batesville, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team split a pair of matches and freshman
Alicia Pickett set a school record for attack percentage in a three-set match as the Lions defeated Stephens College, but fell to host Lyon today in a tri match at Lyon.
In the first match, Southern (3-7) rolled offensively, taking out Stephens (3-10) in straight sets. Individual set scores were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-20.
The Lions hit .316 in the opening set and .435 in set two en route to hitting .333 for the match.
Pickett had nine kills and zero errors in ten attempts to hit a school-record .900 in the match. She broke the previous record of .838 set by Brittany Vavao-Huggins in 2008 against Nebraska-Omaha.
Sydney Dose had eight kills, while
Bailey Rexford had seven.
Whitney Harrison dished out 18 assists, while
Bradyn Wall had 11 of her own.
Bridgette Jaeger and
Kat Gries had 11 and nine digs, respectively.
In match number two, Southern rallied to force extra points and win set two, but couldn't pull out the win, falling in four to Lyon. Individual set scores were 20-25, 27-25, 23-25 and 22-25.
This match, it was
Mikayla Monk who hit .684 with 13 kills and zero errors in 19 attempts. Pickett had 11 kills, while Rexford added ten kills and eight digs. Wall dished out 28 assists, while Gries had 18 digs.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Harding at 9 am, and finish the day with Ouachita Baptist at 1 pm.
