Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped both ends of two matches today as the Lions fell 3-0 to Harding and 3-1 to Ouachita Baptist, both matches being played at Harding today.
Southern (3-9) fell in straight sets to Harding (8-2) in the morning match. Individual set scores were 16-25, 18-25, and 16-25. In the late match, the Lions fell three sets to one. Individual set scores were 25-19, 22-25, 20-25 and 17-25.
In the match with Harding, the Lions were led by
Alicia Pickett and
Christina Perlinger. Both had seven kills, while Pickett hit .353 and added four blocks.
Whitney Harrison dished out 25 assists, while
Kat Gries had 13 digs.
In the match with OBU (9-2), the Lions were led by Perlinger's 15 kills as the freshman hit .190 and added ten digs and three blocks.
Bailey Rexford had 23 kills and nine digs, while Pickett added nine kills and seven blocks.
Harrison dished out 38 assists and added a team-high 18 digs, while
Kat Gries had 11 digs of her own.
The Lions will be back in action this Tuesday night when they have their home opener. Southern welcomes in Drury University for a 7 pm first-serve from Young Gymnasium.
