Lions Close First Half of Season At Former MIAA Foe Missouri S&T

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team will close the 2016 portion of their schedule with a road trip to former MIAA foe Missouri S&T for a Monday evening tilt.

The Series
Southern leads the overall series with the former MIAA foe 33-10. This is the first meeting since the 2009-10 season where the Lions came away with the 73-68 win in Rolla. Southern has the 15-7 advantage over the Lady Miners in Rolla, while the Lions have protected their home court with an 18-3 record in Joplin. Southern is amidst a seven game winning streak against the Lady Miners, Feb. 26, 2003 thru Dec. 9, 2009. The longest winning streak, 11 games, for either team is held by the Lions from Feb. 12, 1992 thru Feb. 18, 1998. Missouri S&T's longest winning streak was four games back in the late 1980's and early 1990's (Nov. 29, 1988 thru Jan. 23, 1991). Southern has won five of the last six in Rolla and 12 of the last 13 contests in the series.

The Coaches

Ronnie Ressel is in his 15th year on the staff at Missouri Southern and his first year at the helm of the women's program. During his three years as an assistant for the women, Ressel had helped the team to a 58-30 record and a 38-22 mark in the MIAA. In 2015-16 the team saw two players earn All-MIAA status as Sharese Jones was a first-team selection, while Deb Holcomb was a third-team pick.

Alan Eads, the school's all-time winningest coach, comes into his 15th season as the head of the Lady Miners' program and has led the team to two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances during that time.
Eads has guided the Lady Miners to a 183 wins in his first 14 seasons at the helm, becoming the leader in wins on on Jan 29, 2011 when the Lady Miners defeated Maryville 65-63 in overtime. He is currently third among active coaches in the GLVC in wins at his or her institution.

Missouri Southern

A late rally was not enough for the Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team as they fell 86-80 to the Lindenwood University Lady Lions Saturday afternoon at Hyland Arena. Holcomb finished with a career-high 35 points for Southern while Lindenwood was led by Bildner with 24 points. Buerge finished with 11 points for Southern while Green added 10. Junior Jenson Maydew led Southern on the boards with eight. The last time Southern had a 30-point scorer was last season at Central Missouri in the 76-73 overtime win on February 20th, Sharese Jones scored 31. The last time in a regulation game was on January 15, 2015 at Lindenwood in a 79-70 win, Nic Hartzog went for 30 against Lindenwood.

The Missouri S&T Lady Miners survived a fourth quarter rally to defeat Westminster 52-49 on Wednesday evening at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. S&T (6-3) struggled to get into an offensive rhythm in the second half shooting under 30 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 10 times. S&T finished the game shooting 37 percent (21-for-57) from the floor, 5-of-18 from downtown and shot only 63 percent at the foul line. It was out rebounded by Westminster 39-36 but did turn 19 Blue Jay turnovers into 18 points. Gray finished with 16 points while Greenwood dropped in 13. Katey Brown (Craig, Neb./Guardian Angels Central Catholic) added seven rebounds.
