2016-17: Played in 28 and started 10 games in her first season with the Lions...Finished the season with a field-goal percentage of 43.8 and free-throw percentage of 77.8...Posted 29 minutes and nine points at Minnesota State on Nov.19th(both season highs)... Grabbed a season-high seven rebounds vs. Southwestern Oklahoma on Nov. 13th...Swiped a season-hight two steals against Fort Hayes State on Dec. 1st...Also notched a season-high two blocks twice vs. Truman and Evangel. 

Prior to Southern: Mitchell played just one year for the Lady Norse playing in 33 games and shooting 42.8 percent (110-for-257) from the field while pulling down 191 rebounds. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M won the NJCAA Region 2 championship and entered the NJCAA D-I National Championships seeded 13th. The Lady Norse defeated Lake Region State in the first round before falling to fourth-seeded New Mexico in the round of 16. Prior to joining NEO A&M, Mitchell prepped at Southwest High School of Washburn in southwest Missouri. While playing for the Lady Trojans she earned All-Conference honors all four years including the Conference Player of the Year during her senior season. During her sophomore season Shannon was voted team MVP and best defensive player before earning All-District and Walnut Grove Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team honors the following season. During her senior season she was also earned All-District honors and was a member of the Southwest Holiday All-Tournament Team. Mitchell was also a stand out on the volleyball court for Southwest HS. She was a two time Conference Player of the Year, a three time All-District first team selection, earned three All-Region honors, and was a two time All-State honorable mention honoree.

Personal: Shannon plans to major in pre-medicine (veterinary medicine) at Southern and is the daughter of Charlie and Lisa Mitchell.
