Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team ran into a hot-hitting Central Oklahoma squad tonight as the number nine ranked Bronchos defeated the Lions three sets to none inside Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium. Individual set scores were 14-25, 17-25 and 15-25.
Southern (5-23, 2-13 MIAA) was led by
Sydney Dose with 10 kills and three digs.
Bailey Rexford had five kills, while
Katie Paine and
Whitney Harrison had 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
Christina Perlinger and
Kat Gries had six digs each, while
Monica White had five blocks.
Central Oklahoma (27-2, 13-2 MIAA) was led by ten kills from Jordan Spence and 39 assists from Katy Davis.
The Lions opened up a 6-3 lead in the first set, but UCO went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-6 lead and led from there on out.
The second set was all Bronchos as they led from start to finish.
In the third set, UCO got out to a 6-4 lead, but the Lions fought back and tied the set at nine on a kill by White and took a 10-9 lead on a kill by Dose. UCO, however, answered back with a 6-1 run to go up 16-11 and finished off the Lions on a 15-5 run to end the set.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow evening with a matchup with Pittsburg State. First serve from Young Gymnasium is slated for 5 pm.
