Edmond, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team held tough in the final two sets, but couldn't handle the tenth ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos falling three sets to none tonight. Individual set scores were 11-25, 18-15 and 22-25.
Southern (4-15, 1-5 MIAA) was led by
Sydney Dose as the freshman hit .310 with 14 kills and six digs.
Katie Paine had a career-high 27 assists, while
Bailey Rexford had eight kills and seven digs.
Alyx Gepford and
Kat Gries had seven digs each in the mathc, while
Mikayla Monk had five kills.
The Bronchos (18-1, 5-1 MIAA) was led by Ijeoma Njenje with 14 kills.
UCO led from start to finish in the first set, but the second set featured seven tied scores and three lead changes. Southern led 7-6 early on, but that was the last lead the Lions saw in the set.
In the third set, Southern led 17-13 late in the set after a kill from Rexford. A 5-0 run from the Bronchos gave UCO an 18-17 lead and after the Lions tied the set at 19, the Bronchos scored six of the final nine points to put the match away.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow evening as Southern travels to Pittsburg State. First serve against the Gorillas is set for 6 pm.
