Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team lost in a three set match today at No. 17 Northwest Missouri. Individual set scores were 13-25, 21-25 and 22-25.
Southern (4-20, 1-10 MIAA) was led offensively by nine kills from
Bailey Rexford. Rexford added four digs.
Sydney Dose had six kills, while
Alicia Pickett added five.
Whitney Harrison added 21 assists and
Bridgette Jaeger had eight digs.
Northwest (21-2, 9-2 MIAA) was led by ten kills from Maddy Bruder and 32 assists from Sarah Dannettell.
The first set featured one tied score and one lead change, but the Bearcats led for the majority.
In the second set, Northwest led 14-9, but the Lions went on a 5-1 run to cut the lead to one and force a Northwest timeout. The Lions scored five of the next six points out of the timeout to lead 19-16, but three-straight points from the Bearcats tied it up and forced a Lions' timeout. Northwest scored six of the final eight points to take the set.
In the third set, Southern tied the frame at 16, 17, 18, 18, and 21, but couldn't close out the set falling in three.
The Lions will be back in action on October 29 when they head to Nebraska-Kearney. First serve is set for 6 pm.
