Lions Softball Wins Home Opener in the Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial Classic

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions softball (5-11) team won its home opener, and opening game, in the 2012 Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial Classic over the Lindenwood Lady Lions 4-1 Saturday night at Lea Kungle Field.

Senior Breanna Volkmann provided the offensive spark for the Lions going 2-for-3 at the dish with a run scored and one RBI.  Fellow seniors Alysha Poteat, Brooke Hurley, and Brianna Fulkerson also added an RBI each for the Lions.

Sophomore Haley Pypes (5-2) got the start and win inside the circle going all seven innings giving up just one run, unearned, on one hit and striking out five.

The Lions are back in action Saturday afternoon with a noon game with St. Mary's (Texas) and then again at 4pm against St. Edward's.
