Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern softball
team dropped a pair of MIAA games at seventh ranked Emporia State
today, losing 11-4 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
Southern (12-26-1, 3-7 MIAA) got on top first with an RBI double
from Megan Roark in the second that scored Whitney Clute.
Emporia (30-7, 8-0 MIAA) answered with three runs in the second,
three in the third and five in the fourth to take an 11-1
lead
The Lions scored three runs in the fifth to cut the lead to
11-4. Krista Bomak singled to start the inning and Breanna Volkmann
walked to put two on. Natalie Nelson sacrificed both runners over
before Kelli Bax singled through the left side scoring Bomak.
Volkmann scored on a wild pitch and Bax scored when Angie Turner
reached on a fielder's choice.
Bax, Clute, Roark and Bomak all had hits for the
Lions.
The Lions managed just two hits in game two as Emporia starter
Jenifer Heerey pitched five innings, striking out six.
Clute started for the Lions and allowed just two earned runs in
an inning and two thirds, while Tiffany Bennett and Kayce Moore
threw the final three and two thirds, allowing just one earned
run.
Volkmann and Nelson had the hits for the Lions.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow when the Lions play a
pair at Washburn beginning at 2 pm.
