Springfield, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern
softball team dropped a non-conference double-header today, losing
6-3 and 10-2 at Drury in Springfield.
Southern (9-23-1) fell victim to the big inning as Drury (11-21)
plated a five run inning in game one and a six run frame in the
night cap.
In game one, the Lions were down 5-0 after two, but scored two
runs of their own in the top of the third when Kelli Bax singled
and stole second to start the inning. Angie Turner singled home Bax
and later scored on a wild pitch.
Both teams scored in the fourth with the Lions' run coming when
Brooke Hurley doubled and scored on a ground out from Bax. Neither
team would plate a run in the final three innings.
Whitney Clute threw four and a third innings of relief of
Tiffany Bennett. Turner went 3-4 in the game with a run and an RBI,
while Megan Roark had two hits of her own. Bax drove in a run and
scored once.
In game two, Drury scored two in the first and one each in the
second and third to go up 4-0 after three. The Lions added a run in
the fourth when Hurley singled home Talisha Washington who was
running for Roark. Roark had singled with two outs.
The Panthers, however, scored six runs in the bottom of the
fourth and despite a lone run in the fifth for the Lions, put away
the game.
Roark, Clute, Hurley and Natalie Nelson all had hits for the
Lions in game two with Hurley picking up the lone RBI. Kayce Moore
started and went three innings, while Bennett pitched an inning in
relief.
The Lions will be back in action this Friday when they play host
to Southwest Baptist in a double-header beginning at 3 pm.
