Wichita Falls, Texas - The Missouri Southern
softball team dropped their first two games today at the Midwestern
State University softball classic, falling 10-0 to Texas Woman's
and 2-1 to West Texas A&M.
Southern (0-2) had just three hits in the opener as TWU (6-2)
pitcher Carley Case struck out eight and went the distance.
The Lions had hits from Breanna Volkmann Angie Turner and Megan
Roark. Tiffany Bennett started and went three innings, while
Whitney Clute finished the final two and two thirds.
In game two, West Texas (9-4) scored runs in the third and
fifth, before the Lions picked up their first run on an RBI double
from Kirsta Bomak in the sixth. Clute scored on the play.
Kelli Bax, Clute, Roark and Bomak had a hit each in the game,
while Turner and Jessica Brooks walked three and two times,
respectively. Bennett started game two and went three and a third,
allowing one unearned run and striking out two. Clute pitched the
final 2.2 innings and struck out three, while allowing just two
hits.
The Lions get back in action tomorrow with a pair of games,
opening up against Western New Mexico before finishing the day with
Oklahoma Panhandle State.
