Prior to Southern: Hernandez lettered in 4 sports at Los Amigos High School in Fountain Valley CA. He was a thrower for 3 years, played football for 4 years, soccer for 1 year and basketball for 2 years. He was a shotput and discus league champion in 2011. 2012 he was the high jump league champion. In football his junior and senior year he was placed on the all-league and all-CIF teams for quarterback. Hernandez lettered 2 years in track and field at Goldenwest Community College in CA where he was a 2 time conference champion, 2 time Southern California champion and 2 time All-American. 

Personal: Engaged to Monica Garcia with whome he has his son Evan Hernandez. Majors in Education at Southern.
