JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri Southern turned in a strong showing at the Missouri Southern Lion Open, collecting multiple event victories, personal records and NCAA qualifying marks across the field and running events.
The Lions were dominant in the shot put, led by
Dailynn VanDeren's first-place finish in the women's event with a personal-best throw of 16.71 meters to earn an NCAA qualifying mark. On the men's side, Missouri Southern swept the podium as
Jamale Williams claimed first place with a personal-best 18.79 meters, followed by
Cedric Pearson and
Trace Wooldridge, with all three earning NCAA qualifiers.
Strong performances continued in the jumps, highlighted by
Joshua Amoah-Owusu's victory in the men's triple jump with a personal-best 14.23 meters, while
Ayden Walton placed third. In the high jump,
Avery Lawhorn led the women with a third-place finish and personal-best clearance of 1.58 meters, and
Carter Zbaren added a fourth-place finish on the men's side.
Travis Greenfield captured first place in the men's pole vault with an NCAA qualifying mark of 4.88 meters.
On the track, Missouri Southern posted several standout performances in the sprints and hurdles.
Aryah Moore won the women's 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best and NCAA qualifying time of 8.60 seconds, while
Tomas Foreman claimed first place in the men's event. The Lions swept the top three spots in the women's 60 meters, led by
Ella Fosse's personal-best 7.76 seconds, and
Rylan Wilson captured the men's title with a personal-best 6.90 seconds.
Missouri Southern closed the meet with strong middle-distance and distance results, as
Kelton Sorrell and
Caleb Leach finished first and second in the men's mile, Miguel Solano won the men's 600-yard run with a personal-best time,
Chase Sorrell claimed first in the men's 800 meters, and
Hadley Goins captured the women's 3,000 meters with a personal-best performance.
