Southern Halted by Pittsburg State in Midweek Clash

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern baseball team hit the road for a midweek conference showdown against the Pittsburg State University Gorillas. Southern would retake the lead in the fourth after trailing by three runs, with a fourth-run inning fueled by a Chayton Beck homer. The Gorillas retook their lead and held their advantage for an 8-5 win.

The Gorillas took an early lead in the first inning, moving ahead 1-0 and in the third inning to increase its lead to 3-0.
 
Southern responded in the fourth inning after Nate Mieszkowski walked and later scored on Treghan Parker's single. Chayton Beck followed with a three-run home run to put the Lions ahead 4-3. Pittsburg State regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, making it 5-4.
 
In the sixth inning, Pittsburg State added two runs, 7-4.
 
In the seventh inning, the Lions added a run with Ethan Clark's sacrifice fly, 7-5, but the Gorillas answered in the bottom of the inning to push the score to 8-5. Pittsburg State held its advantage for a final score of 8-5.
 
Chayton Beck led Southern, driving three runs and hitting a home run. Nate Mieszkowski contributed with two hits and scored one run while also drawing a walk. Treghan Parker added a hit and an RBI, and Brayden Luikart added two hits. The Loins tallied 10 hits.
 
Lane Chapman tossed 3.0 innings, facing 15 batters. Walker Sweet also pitched 3.0 innings, recording one strikeout. Owen Schneider added 1.2 innings of work, striking out four. Michael Moore retired the only batter he faced with just two pitches, both for strikes and allowed no hits or runs.
