Southern Secures Game One Win Over Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball team hit the road for a conference showdown against the Missouri Western State University. The Lions took control early, capitalizing on a sacrifice. The Griffons briefly took the lead, but Southern responded and held Missouri Western scoreless for the remainder of the game, securing a 12-4 victory.

Southern began the game with a run as Drew Townsend scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Filip, taking an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the third inning, the Lions capitalized on walks and a hit-by-pitch to score two more runs. Chayton Beck crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk to Nate Mieszkowski, and Drew Townsend scored on a hit-by-pitch to Blake Jones, extending their lead to 3-0.
 
The Griffons responded in the fourth inning, scoring four runs and allowing them to take a 4-3 lead briefly.
 
Southern regained control in the sixth with a six-run inning. Brayden Luikart and Ethan Clark scored on Nate Mieszkowski's single, followed by Jacob Filip crossing the plate on a wild pitch. Jake Leeker added an RBI single, Blake Jones scored on another wild pitch, and Cy Darnell capped the inning with an RBI double to take a 9–4.
 
In the ninth inning, the Lions secured their win by adding three more runs. Treghan Parker drove in two runs with a single, and Chayton Beck added another RBI single, finalizing the score at 12-4.
 
Chayton Beck excelled at the plate with three hits, including a double, and drove in one run. Jacob Filip contributed with two runs, two hits, and one RBI, while Cy Darnell finished with two hits, one RBI, and one double. The Lions totaled 13 hits in the game.
 
Cole Gayman pitched 5.0 innings, striking out three while facing 25 batters. Kyle Moore followed with 3.0 innings of relief, recording one strikeout over 12 batters faced. Alex Baker closed the game with a scoreless inning, striking out one while facing four batters.
