Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball team hosted their home opener against the St. Cloud State University Huskies on Friday, February 7. The Lions trailed and were held off by the Huskies, 7-3.

Keaton Anderson took the mound for the Lions, and the Southern defense retired the Huskies with ground outs, with
Cy Darnell,
Will Doherty, and
Jake Leeker contributing.
The score remained tied at 0-0 until St. Cloud broke the deadlock, scoring four runs in the fourth inning.
The Lions found their rhythm in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs.
Nate Mieszkowski drilled a single to right field, bringing
Treghan Parker (hit-by-pitch) home.
Cy Darnell (hit-by-pitch) and
Jake Leeker (single) also scored on a double down the left field line by
Chayton Beck, cutting the deficit to one at 4-3.
In the top of the seventh, the Huskies added a two-run homer, extending their lead to 6-3.
St. Cloud added a double in the ninth to plate one run to end the game with a final score of 7-3.
Jake Leeker went 3-for-4, collecting three hits and scoring one run.
Chayton Beck finished 1-for-3 with a hit and two RBIs. As a team, the Lions tallied seven hits in the game.
Keaton Anderson started on the mound for the Lions, pitching 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and facing 18 batters.
Trent Harris followed, throwing 2.2 innings, recording one strikeout, and facing 11 batters.
Owen Schneider then took over for 2.1 innings, striking out two and facing 11 batters.
Walker Sweets finished the game with 0.2 innings of work.
