Southern Splits Doubleheader with Drury

Springfield, Mo. -  The Missouri Southern baseball team traveled to take on the Drury University Panthers in a double header on Friday, February 14. The Lions won game one 5-1 with Cole Gayman earning the win and recording eight strikeouts. Brayden Luikart, Ethan Clark, and Treghan Parker led the offense with key hits and RBIs. The Lions fell in game two, 9-3.

Cole Gayman started for the Lions, shutting out the Panthers and recording eight strikeouts.

Brayden Luikart put the Lions ahead in the fifth with a double to left center, scoring Will Doherty, who had doubled to left field. The Lions led 1-0.

In the seventh inning, Ethan Clark singled to left field and scored on Brayden Luikart's crushed triple, putting Southern up 2-0. Kyle Moore then entered the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Chayton Beck kept the rally going, driving in Nate Mieszkowski with a single. Drew Townsend followed with a triple, scoring Beck and extending the Lions' lead to 4-0 by the end of the eighth inning.

Southern capped their scoring in the ninth inning with a Nate Mieszkowski double to left center plating Will Potter. Drury would get on the board scoring a run. The Lions secured a 5-1 victory.

Brayden Luikart went 3-for-4 with three hits, two RBIs, one triple, and two doubles. Nate Mieszkowski went 2-for-3 with one hit, one RBI, and a double. Chayton Beck went 1-for-4 with one hit and one RBI. The Lions totaled 11 hits.
 
Cole Gayman started for the Lions, earning the win with a shutout performance, recording eight strikeouts over 27 batters faced and allowing just three hits. Kyle Moore then pitched 2.1 innings, striking out one while facing 12 batters

Drury took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Southern responded, tying the game with a Treghan Parker double to right field that scored Brayden Luikart, who had doubled to left center. Parker later scored on a Jacob Filip double down the left field line, and Cy Darnell drove in Filip.
 
The score remained tied until the fourth inning, when the Panthers scored five runs to take an 8-3 lead. Drury would add a final run in the sixth and hold their lead for a 9-3 victory.
 
Brayden Luikart went 2-for-2 with a triple and a double. Treghan Parker went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Jacob Filip also went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. The Lions recorded seven hits.
 
Keaton Anderson started for the Lions, pitching 0.2 innings and facing six batters. Michael Moore threw 2.1 innings, striking out two while facing 10 batters. Cole White followed with 0.2 innings, recording a strikeout over five batters faced. Trent Harris pitched 1.1 innings, and Lane Chapman closed the game with 1.0 inning of work.
