Lions Close Opening Weekend with Multiple Event Wins at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Missouri Southern Track & Field wrapped its opening weekend Saturday at the Crimson and Gold Invitational with three event victories and a deep set of top-eight finishes across throws, jumps and mid-distance.

Dailynn VanDeren swept the women's throws, earning 1st place finishes in both the weight throw (19.12m) and shot put (16.42m), while teammate Briar Gillum added podium and top-five finishes of her own in the weight (5th, 17.85m) and shot put (3rd, 14.53m). 


On the men's side, Gabe Ford headlined with a win in the weight throw at 19.85 meters, followed by four Lions finishing inside the top nine.


The Lions pushed depth in the vertical events with five women clearing in pole vault and two men placing top-10. In the long jump, Chase Querry earned a top-five performance at 6.99m.


Phillip Jefferson claimed the 600-yard title in 1:09.87, while Miguel Solano added a runner-up finish in the 800 meters at 1:52.84. Ashyiria Savage led the women's hurdles group with a third-place time of 8.62.
