Men Take Fourth; Women Finish Fifth at 2025 MIAA Cross Country Championships

Jaden Deaton Earns First Team All-MIAA Honors as Four Lions Secure All-Conference Laurels

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri Southern men's cross country team finished fourth overall in the 8K race at the 2025 MIAA Championships Saturday at Four Oaks Golf Course. The Lion women finished fifth overall in the 6K with 114 points.
 
The MSSU men totaled 124 points for fourth and were paced by Jaden Deaton who finished seventh out of 110 runners.
 
Deaton, a senior from Poplar Bluff, Missouri, crossed the finish in 24:48.81 for First Team All-MIAA honors. It marked the third-straight All-MIAA honor for Deaton and second-straight First Team All-MIAA selection. 
 
Kelton Sorrell secured All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors completing the 8K in 25:19.67 for 15th.
 
Kyla Weems led the MSSU women, registering a time of 22:14.79 for 13th and All-MIAA Honorable Mention laurels. It marked her second career All-MIAA Honorable Mention after previously earning a spot in 2023. 
 
Lilah Genel also picked up All-MIAA Honorable Mention accolades with an 18th place finish in 22:23.49. It marked her second career All-MIAA honor after previously earning First Team honors in 2023. 
 
The Pittsburg State women captured its fourth consecutive cross country title at the 2025 MIAA Championships. Fort Hays State's Emily Diercks-McCullough was crowned the championship's back-to-back individual champion with the second-fastest winning time in championship history. 

The Northwest Missouri men clinched their second consecutive cross country title at the 2025 MIAA Championships. Northwest's Aziz Mohammed was crowned the 2025 individual champion with a winning time of 24:16.06.

Missouri Southern next hosts the 2025 NCAA Central Region Championships Nov. 8 at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. The women's 6k race begins at 10 a.m., CT followed by the men's 10k Race at 11:15 a.m.
