Lions battle Tigers on Senior Day, Honor Bundy and Ndaw

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri Southern men's basketball team fell in its final regular season home game, 84-70 to Fort Hays State. The Lions travel to Washburn and Northwest Missouri to finish out the regular season before playing in the MIAA Tournament the first week of March. 
 

Prior to the game, the Lions honored Christian Bundy and Ndongo Ndaw as a part of senior day and their contributions to the Missouri Southern program. 

How it Happened. 

It was a defensive battle the first three minutes of the contest as neither team could find their mark from the field. 

Back and forth action saw the Tigers with a slight edge of 13-12 at the midway point of the first half. 

The Lions continued to battle, taking their first lead of the game at the 7:04 mark after a Vinson Sigmon layup made the score 16-15 Sigmon extended the lead on the following possession, knocking down a jumper to extend the lead to 18-15. 

The Tigers found their form over the final six minutes of the first half, ending the period on a 21-5 run to take a 36-23 lead at the break.

Kaleb Hammeke lead all scorers with a 35-point effort to lead the Tigers. Fort Hays extended the lead to 24 with just under seven minutes to play in the game.

The Lions refused to quit and led by Avery Taggert's 22-point effort. Missouri Southern cut the deficit to 10 with 2:27 to play following a Parker Long triple. Long finished with 13 points, his second-best scoring effort on the season. 

Missouri Southern could trim the deficit no further, falling to the Tigers 84-70. 

Notes

Christian Bundy set the record for most games played on senior day, setting the new standard at 125 career appearances. He eclipsed former teammate Elyjah Clark who previously held the record with 124 appearances.
